Importing Egyptian herbs & spices into the USA

Bringing dried herbs, spices, seeds or flowers into the United States means meeting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules under FSMA. Here is what applies to a food shipment, and the documentation an FDA-registered Egyptian exporter provides so your US entry runs smoothly.

FDA Food Facility Registration

A foreign facility that manufactures, processes, packs or holds food for consumption in the United States must be registered with the FDA and renew that registration every two years. El Yasmina holds a current U.S. Food Facility Registration (No. 17091220016). This is a registration, not an FDA approval of the product — but it is the baseline the FDA expects of any supplier shipping food to a US importer.

FDA Prior Notice

Every food shipment entering the US requires Prior Notice to be filed with the FDA before the goods arrive. The filing names the product, quantity, manufacturer and FDA registration details. El Yasmina provides the exporter data your customs broker or filer needs to submit Prior Notice accurately and on time, so a consignment is not refused or held at the port.

FSVP — Foreign Supplier Verification Program

Under FSMA, the US importer of record must operate a Foreign Supplier Verification Program: verifying that its foreign suppliers produce food to a standard equivalent to US requirements. El Yasmina supports your FSVP with the supplier documentation it asks for — GFSI-recognised FSSC 22000, ISO 22000 and HACCP certification, laboratory analyses, product specifications, and our food-safety and hazard-control basis. The importer runs the FSVP; we give you the evidence to complete it.

Documentation for US entry

Alongside Prior Notice, a US-bound shipment is typically accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis, a pesticide-residue report, a microbiological report, a heavy-metals report, an allergen statement, a certificate of origin and a phytosanitary certificate. We confirm the exact set with every quotation and prepare it per shipment and lot for the US market.

Labeling and the importer's role

US retail labeling is governed by the FDA and is the importer's responsibility. El Yasmina supplies in bulk or as private label, and provides the product data — botanical name, origin, lot, nutritional reference and allergen information — that supports compliant US labeling.

A simple rule for US buyers

Confirm the US document set before you order, not at the port. Tell us it is a US shipment and we will list exactly which certificates and reports accompany it, and provide our FDA registration details for your Prior Notice and FSVP files.
